The windmills (17th - 18th century) are located south of Orciatico with a signposted trail. From its position it's possible to enjoy breathtaking views. The watermills present in our area had a reduced potential, in fact the Fosce stream and the neighboring barrels used for water supply had a limited capacity and even dried up in the summer. Thus was born the need for an alternative form of energy that would allow grinding at any time of year. The tour starts in the medieval town of Orciatico (sec. VII) built entirely in Alberese stone with one of the most beautiful panoramic terraces in the Tuscany region. Passing through the city, we will take a trail in the midst of uncontaminated and wild vegetation until we reach the first mill, also known as "Mill Fonterossa". We will continue along the same trail passing through a lavender field until we reach the second mill called "Mill Fornelli". On the way back, we will pass by the observatory of Orciatico in the middle of a conifer and oak forest, which will take us to "Mofeta de Borboi". A natural geothermal phenomenon that happens in the Orciatico region. Finally, we will travel along a "white" road through the hills of Orciatico, until we reach our starting point.
