Of great interest from a naturalistic point of view is the presence of a particular natural event. We are talking about the "Mofeta di Borboi", a geothermal spectacle a few steps from the town of Orciatico. The name "mofeta" derives from the goddess Mefite, of Oscan or Samnite origin, protector of the water and the earth, in ancient times adored by farmers because she ensured fertility and prolificacy. Only later did the myth of the goddess Mefite take on negative connotations, becoming a symbol of pestilential smells and death by asphyxiation, and therefore feared by country people.
